Carving Soapstone for Casting Pewter - PRA07A01

Class Description: Students will learn the basics of carving soapstone for uses in casting token out of pewter.
Class Length: 1 to 2 hours
Level of Content: Beginning
Learning Objectives: By the end of the class, students will know:
- How to identify soapstone
- Good soapstone verses bad soapstone
- The tools needed for carving
- The safety hazards of carving
- Preparing soapstone for carving
- Laying out the design
- Steps in carving a design
- Testing the design
