Carving Soapstone for Casting Pewter - PRA07A01

Class Description: Students will learn the basics of carving soapstone for uses in casting token out of pewter.

Class Length: 1 to 2 hours

Level of Content: Beginning

Learning Objectives: By the end of the class, students will know:

  • How to identify soapstone
  • Good soapstone verses bad soapstone
  • The tools needed for carving
  • The safety hazards of carving
  • Preparing soapstone for carving
  • Laying out the design
  • Steps in carving a design
  • Testing the design
