Requirements for the Degree of Prior

At least one-half of classes taken at this level (5 of 10) must be intermediate level or above.

• RUGA Lector Degree

Lector Degree must be in the same specialty area for which the Prior degree is being sought.

• 5 Classes in Specialty Area

These must be in the same specialty area as the classes taken at the Lector level. Only classes in this specialty area will count towards this requirement.

• 5 elective classes

May be from any College or Department.

• 1 Independent Study Project

See Lector requirements for project choices. No substitutions may be made at this level.

• 5 Service Hours

Choose any combination of the following*:

1. Teaching: One class taught equals one service hour. It is anticipated that all teaching hours will be in the student’s specialty area.

2. Provost: One month in office equals one service hour. Serving as a provost or class coordinator for a regional or kingdom level event may also satisfy this requirement. In that case, one event equals one service hour.

3. Judging: Judging one A&S competition equals one service hour. This may be judging at any level competition, although it is recommended that students at the Philosopher level concentrate their judging at regional A&S competitions or higher.
   
   Specific Colleges may allow other kinds of service to be substituted for this requirement. If this is the case, the allowable substitutions will be listed in the specific degree requirements for each College.

*Students may substitute one additional Independent Study Project OR 4 extra elective classes for this requirement.
